Hong Leong Bank ended 2019 on a charitable note by celebrating both Christmas and the year-end by completing a corporate social responsibility activity with the Cambodian Children’s Fund community in Steung Meanchey, one of the poorest areas in the Kingdom’s capital. Chief executive officer, Joe Farrugia, joined by his senior management team and selected bank staff completed two activities to support the district community. The first was a donation of 17 brand new computer sets for educational purposes, presented to the students and teachers of the community. The second activity catered for gifts and snacks within the school grounds. “We hope what we achieve today for the Cambodian Children’s Fund will go a long way towards ensuring all the children become better and smarter students, allowing for a successful future at this school and beyond. Hong Leong Bank will aim to help the community in as many ways possible as we move forward into the future. We want to give back to the people and this is just a small start for now,” Mr Farrugia says. The team described their arrival to the school grounds in Steung Meanchey to be an emotional experience as the children greeted them with claps and cheers. The school head proceeded to welcome the team from Hong Leong Bank with a tour of their facilities and shared some school history. Additionally, after the tour ended, younger students along with their seniors lined up with the team for the respectful greetings of Chum Reapsu and Orkun Chreourn. Scott Neeson, the main founder of the Cambodian Children’s Fund community advised that the computers will be able to support the students for creative design, video and animated production programs and architecture drawings. Hong Leong Bank has also made sure that the teacher who coordinated the day did not leave the event empty-handed by presenting each teacher with a gift bag for gratitude.
